5 Actionable Digital Marketing Tips For B2B Business Owners

Quite often when you read about digital marketing, its all theory, its all hypothetical, and only very rarely there is anything actionable in there for you to take away and use immediately.

So to mix things up a bit, below are 5 actionable tips that all B2B business owners & marketers can take away today and act on immediately.

So without further ado, let's get stuck into it:

1. Email more often

Every day I talk to business owners who have a email list with all their clients, leads and old customers on there, however they are afraid if they email them that they’ll opt out. Firstly, put that thinking aside.

People will only opt out if you spam them with irrelevant offers, and even if they do, what use is an email list if you never use it. Instead, send your list interesting, useful information. Teach them something that hey might be interested in that is related to your industry.

In fact, right now, go and write an email with your 3 top tips for the goal that they are trying to achieve - but don’t pitch. What you’ll find is that people will ask for your help instead as you’ve already demonstrated that you are the expert in your field.

2. Send a ‘thank you’ letter

As humans one of our deepest set needs is the need for love. So take a moment and type up a quick ‘thank you’ letter to your clients and mail it this afternoon. Simply thank them for being a client and let them know that you value their business.

Not only will this go a long way helping you retain clients, but many will also upgrade their service, order more stock or simply refer friends and family to you as they will feel the need to reciprocate.

3. Create an automated ‘referral campaign’

How often do you ask for referrals? Chances are its not very often. So before you finish work today, jump in your email marketing software, and schedule an email for 14 days after a new customer comes on board.

In this email ask for referrals. Ask them to let you know if there is anyone else that they think could benefit from your services.

If you don’t have an email autoresponder then I recommend MailChimp as a cheap basic platform.

4. Get your website ranking

Only too often do B2B business owners tell me that they don’t need their website to rank. But every time I show them direct facts that people are looking for their service in Google, and shortly after coming on board for our search engine optimisation services they thank me for being persistent.

If you’d like to do it in house here are 3 actionable tips for you to do today:

Ensure all pages have unique page titles, H1’s and meta data
List your business in all major local business directories such as TrueLocal, Yellow Pages, etc
Set-up rich snippets on your website to enhance how your websites display

If this is too complicated for you then I strongly suggest that you contact a quality digital marketing agency and get a team on your website ranking ASAP.

5. Gather testimonials

There isn’t a sale that can’t be helped by the use of testimonials. In fact, social proof is one of the most important aspects of persuading humans to do anything.

The easiest way to collect testimonials is to simply send your clients a email asking for one!

I’ve found in the past that by pre-writing a testimonial for them helps increase their willingness to support it by about double.
