Michael’s combined experience in acting for plaintiffs and defendants gives him a balanced and practical approach to his clients. He is involved in the community and regularly undertakes pro bono work for those who are otherwise unable to afford legal representation.

Here is what Michael shared about running his business:

Q. How many hours a week do you work in your business?

60 hours.

Q. What kind of online and offline marketing do you do and which is working for you?

We have found word of mouth from our happy clients is the best way to promote our business.

Q. What mistakes have you made in running your business and what lessons have you learnt from those?

We have learnt if it ain't broke don't fix it and have continued to make the same mistake of fixing something that isn’t broke.

Q. What obstacles or challenges are you facing at the moment?

Changing work system.

Q. Are you able to take time off work to go on holidays? If so, how often?

Most time off is over Christmas period and occasionally I take a weekend away.

Q. What is the most rewarding part of running your own business?

When clients and staff are happy.

Q. Do you use social media as part of your marketing mix?

We haven’t gone down that path, as we haven’t really needed to.

Currently C&M Lawyers operates with 3 lawyers and 5 support staff, offering personal and dedicated service to their clients.

Their main areas of expertise include Conveyancing including Retail Leasing and Personal Injury Law.

Conveyancing

Michael and his team have found that many of their clients are not aware of the process involved in purchasing or selling residential or commercial property and so they offer clients a free consultation during which they review the draft contract and point out potential areas of concern.

Once their clients are ready to take the next step, they help to negotiate amendments to contracts to avoid any pitfalls, arrange pre-purchase, pest, building and/or strata reports, liaise with mortgage brokers in relation to finance, attend to exchange of contracts and settlement of the purchase.

They take time to ensure the process is as stress free as possible for all involved.

For those wanting to sell property, Michael’s team can prepare the contract for sale, liaise with real estate agents and solicitors acting for the purchaser and attend to all legal matters involved in the sale of the property.
