Automate repetitive tasks There are bound to be tasks that you find yourself doing over and over. It may be the way you action your inbox or it could be an administration function. Rather than approaching the work in the same way each time, seek out solutions to automate repetitive tasks. Leveraging off technology could see your emails automatically sorted into folders or reports could be emailed to you instead of requiring you to manually print them. Don’t do things one way just because it is the way it has always been done.
Allocate downtime between tasks Scheduling your weekly diary is important to get yourself in order, but so too is including an element of downtime. It may be organising a meeting for yourself to get an important job completed or simply giving yourself an extra 10 minutes between meetings to catch your breath, refocus and be ready for the next challenge. You’ll find you are less stressed and will overall be able to achieve more.
Delegate where possible Delegating work is often difficult the first time. If you are used to being a one-man-show, allowing others to carry the load can be an anxious time. It is important to realise though that you are not always the only one who can complete the tasks at hand and when there are more pressing jobs to tackle, you are better off delegating than not completing work on time, or to the standards you set yourself.
If you feel that you never have enough hours in the day to achieve your goals and always seem to be watching the clock, it may be time to seek assistance. Working with an expert in time management training, on the job, will help you get more out of your day, work productively and feel less stressed. There are many strategies to apply and plenty that you can adopt today.
